Week 4 | Recipe 4: Hot Cocoa


There is snow here ya’ll!
SNOW!

In light of the snow fall and the chilly weather- I wanted to make something “comforting”. What could be more comforting than some DELICIOUS hot cocoa?! The part I love about this recipe- it’s for a single cup. Want to make more- double it, want to make even more, triple it- but this is super simple for one serving… that is if you only plan to have one cup. {Haha}

This was another magazine find, however, I did not write down the magazine I found it in- OOPS! Props to the inventor… wherever you are!

Hot Cocoa

Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 2 minutes
Total time: 7 minutes {real time consuming receipe here ya’ll…}

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Tbs sugar
  • 1 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla
    Marshmallows {optional}

Instructions:

  1. In a large microwave-safe mug, combine sugar and cocoa powder. Add milk; stir to combine well. {I used a whisk to ensure it was mixed well}
  2. Microwave on 100 percent power {high} for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until heated through, stirring once.
  3. Stir in vanilla. If desired, top with marshmallows. Serve immediately. Makes 1 serving. {I added a dollop of marshmallow fluff and a dash of sweet cream creamer, STOP IT–DELICIOUS!}

{VARIATIONS}
*Spicy cocoa: prepare as directed, except add 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon with cocoa powder. Top with whipped cream and a dash of ground nutmeg.
*Mocha cocoa: prepare as directed, except stir 3/4 tsp instant coffee crystals into finished cocoa.

per serving: 175 cal., 4 g fat (2 g sat.fat), 15 mg chol., 98 mg sodium, 26 g carbo., 0 g fiber, 8 g pro.

 

Would you try something different in your cocoa? What about an “adult” version with some peppermint schnapps or a dash of cayenne pepper {to really spice it up}?
